Portage EMA launches survey to assess broadband limits

Portage County officials hope to find out which communities lack broadband internet service and how they can help people get better internet access.

County commissioners and the Portage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are asking residents to complete a survey about their service or lack of service.

The survey asks participants about the status of their service, and whether they have no service, whether because of a lack of providers, cost, or other reasons.

The FCC defines underserved areas as those where the Internet is at or below 25 megabits per second download and 3 megabits per second upload. The county estimates that between 1,600 and 6,000 county residents live in areas that meet this definition.
