Members of a popular internet forum have been stunned after a teenage girl revealed why she was accused of destroying her brother’s marriage and family.
In a viral Reddit post posted to r/AmITheA**hole, Redditor u/throwawaypoolproblem (otherwise known as the original poster, or OP) said she was left in a daze by the pool induced by the anesthetized by her 24-year-old sister. -brother-in-law before learning that she was supposedly responsible for the couple’s divorce.
Entitled, “[Am I the a**hole] for ruining my brother’s marriage because his wife left me at the pool?” the post received over 10,000 votes and 5,000 comments in the last four hours.
Explaining that her sister-in-law had agreed to drive her to her wisdom tooth extraction surgery, the original poster stated that everything was going to go according to plan, until it didn’t.
“When I came out of anesthesia I was very disoriented and nauseous,” OP wrote. “They put gauze in my mouth to stop any bleeding and [she] took me to his car after he was released.
“I don’t really remember the ride, but I felt like not enough time had passed before [she] got out of the car and told me to come with her,” OP continued. “Long story short, we were at the pool.”
Still delirious and disoriented, the original poster said her sister-in-law led her to a table by the pool and told her she would be back in a while.
As OP held back the vomit and struggled to stay conscious in the 90-degree heat, she said she called her brother to explain what was happening, inadvertently setting off a contentious chain of life-changing events.
“I guess since it was her day off and she didn’t have my niece, she was meeting friends at the pool,” OP wrote. “I was starting to feel really sick and about to pass out or have a panic attack, so I called my brother.”
“He couldn’t understand me…and I guess he called [her] because she came back stomping and swearing and screaming,” OP continued. “My brother had left work and met us at [their] aisle. He was screaming and [she] was crying.”
“My brother took me home and stayed with me until the meds wore off. [and] that’s when he told me he was going to divorce [her] because of what she did,” OP added. “It’s been a few days and…[she] blew up my phone telling me what an ab**ch I am and how my denunciations destroyed his family. “
Although all wisdom tooth extraction surgeries achieve basically the same result, not all extractions require the same amount of patient care afterwards.
For each wisdom tooth extraction, the Mayo Clinic reports that dental professionals choose from a trio of anesthetics: local anesthesia, sedation anesthesia, and general anesthesia.
Local anesthesia, administered by injections near the extraction sites, keeps patients awake throughout the procedure and is minimally invasive. So much so that, based on a series of tests, a patient can drive home after having their teeth extracted, according to Dental Restorative Group.
But when heavier anesthetics are administered, the amount of care needed following a wisdom extraction increases dramatically.
Due to numerous side effects, including limited range of motion, decreased reflexes and impaired vision, Dental Restorative Group says patients recovering from general anesthesia should be transported by a reliable adult and closely monitored. for one to two days after the procedure. at the edge of a pond with a mouthful of gauze and a panic attack on the horizon.
Throughout the comments section of the viral Reddit post, many Redditors called out the original poster’s sister-in-law for abandoning her and insisted that she deserved much better care.
However, even more Redditors remained focused on disproving the idea that somehow the original poster was responsible for his brother’s now broken marriage.
“OP you are not the reason they are divorcing,” wrote Redditor u/JeepersCreepers74 in the main comment of the post, which received nearly 17,000 votes. “But if you find out the reason, please come back and update.”
“[Not the a**hole]“, they added.
Redditor u/kittenoftheeast, whose comment received over 5,500 comments, echoed that sentiment.
“[Not the a**hole]. Not remotely,” they wrote. “You didn’t ruin their marriage. The other things your brother didn’t detail? Looks like [her] treatment of you was a drop in the bucket.”
“What she did was very irresponsible and childish,” added Redditor u/CrossFace13, receiving nearly 3,000 votes. “I don’t think that’s the only reason your brother is thinking about divorce either, it feels like the final nail in the coffin.”
“You didn’t ruin your brother’s marriage,” added Redditor u/GoingPriceForHome. “SHE did it. It feels like the latest stunt she’s pulled off in a long line of reckless and harmful behavior.”
