Social Bookmarking
These are just some of the questions that I get from many of our clients when I mention marketing their business through Social Bookmarking? Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata. Members of Social Bookmarking sites save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public and can be shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, or via a search engine.
This marketing tool is far more productive than other traditional methods of promoting sales especially if you are targeting a younger generation. The traffic from your site will increase by leaps and bounds if you promote it correctly. Through Social Bookmarking you can build your reputation in your chosen area of expertise.

The Web is built on links, and a solid link building strategy is absolutely essential for any business that wants to thrive online. In essence links that point back to your site do two things: they bring you
targeted traffic and they enhance your
search engine rankings.
By placing your links on another site that is related to your content, you can bring visitors to your site who are interested in the sort of content you offer. And Google, king of the search engines, places more value (and therefore greater rankings) on sites with multiple links pointing back to them.

One thing that webmasters and site owners always forget once they have opened a brand new site or introduced a brand new product is to write a PRESS RELEASE. This is a big mistake! I believe crafting a press release is very essential in developing website traffic. It is a way to create multiple back links to your site and also give good press about your company. Most of the time, clients / customers will google your company name to see if you have any other information on the web besides your own website. Wouldn’t it be great if they read all wonderful press releases about your company.
I know that most of the free online Press Release sites offer less in the way of human traffic however they can go a long way to creating quality backlinks to your site.

Social Book marking could be the next big thing in web site marketing since the development of the personal blogs.
Social Book marking web sites like http://Del.icio.us, Digg, Stumble Upon and Furl allow their users to create a set of web site content bookmarks. Submitted book marks are organized by content tags, which are arbitrary phrases or words a user can assign to the content they wish to bookmark. This gives the user a way to classify, rank and organize web site content using tags.
The most popular Social Book marking web site is Digg. Digg is a relatively new social book marking web site and has in it’s short time attracted millions of members who daily add bookmarks to all sorts of web site content. Over search engines and other bots, social book marking web sites have an intrinsic advantage. Users will choose what content they will bookmark, unlike relying on a program to categorize and qualify content. There is an implied quality in something that someone has taken the time to select.
Users of a social book marking web site will read other posters bookmarks and then add them to their own bookmarks if they liked them.. You can even view RSS feeds to see what others are tagging, which is a very cool feature and is a textbook example of a very powerful viral marketing technique.

The easiest way of improving your ranking in the search engines is to let them know that your site is important. How do you do that? Well, the best way is through the process of link building. Link building is the practice of encouraging other websites to link to your own website. If other websites are linking to your website, your “link popularity” will increase, search engines will deem your website important, and in turn, you should receive more traffic. Link building is a time consuming task, and it is for this reason that most all websites rank so poorly in the search engines. Many website owners are unaware that link popularity can have such an effect on their search engine rankings. This is good new for you. Start building your links now and establish your “web cred”.
Importance of Page Rank
Google, the Internet’s most popular search engine, measures a website’s link popularity through the use of Page Rank. To view a website’s Page Rank, just download the Google Toolbar. The toolbar will display the Page Rank of every website you visit, measured as a little green bar. A website’s Page Rank can vary from a low of zero to a high of 10. Don’t worry if your website has a low, or no Page Rank. Many websites only have a Page Rank of 1 or 2, but the Internet’s most popular websites possess a Page Rank of 8 or 9.

As a website designer, I get asked by my colleagues all the time on how I determine my design charges? To be honest, there is really no straight answer to that question. Most of the time, I always say “it depends on the work”. It could be per page, per hour, or per project.
Now here is my advice for aspiring designers who are just getting into the business. Before you ever give out a quote to the potential client, you need to consider a few things first.
• What is the project and how complex would it is?
Ask your potential client, a couple of things. Some questions to ask include:
o How many pages will they be needed?
o Are there images and/or templates that need to be used, or will they be created as part of the project?
o Are all contents will be provided by the client or will be written by the designer?
o Will there be any Flash, multimedia, programming or scripting required?
